WELCOME TO Fossgate Bridge Apartments York

Welcome to York and to Fossgate Bridge Apartments. We hope you have a wonderful stay in our beautiful city and that you feel comfortable in your apartment.

To ensure that you have a pleasant and relaxing visit we have prepared this short guide to answer some of the questions you may have about York and your apartment.

Please refer to this guide if you have any questions or if you need to familiarise yourself with how things work. In terms of our wonderful city, it would be impossible to provide every bit of information that you could need; however, for information about ‘everything York’, (places to visit, restaurants, things to do, etc.) we strongly recommend that you use the free Wi-Fi and take a look at visityork.orgJust about everything that you possibly want to know about York and the surrounding area is on that site.

We pride ourselves in presenting an apartment where you will feel relaxed and comfortable. We strive to present it in a meticulously clean and well-appointed way so that all you have to worry about is how to spend your time. However, if there is anything more that we could do to make your stay an even more comfortable or enjoyable one, please do leave a comment in the visitors book and we will be sure to act upon it.

Once you have come to the end of your stay you will receive a request for you to review your stay and your apartment. These reviews are really important to us as they help us to maintain and hopefully improve the quality of your experience. Once you receive your request, we would be very grateful if you could take the one or two minutes needed to complete the short questionnaire.

We sincerely hope that you have a wonderful stay, and we look forward to your next visit.

Your Safety and Welfare

Security

The front door has a pin code. This code is only provided to guests and trusted individuals.

Each apartment within the building has separate security. Your apartment is fitted with a lock that has an integrated code mechanism; the code is routinely changed. Only you as a guest and trusted individuals (such as the cleaner) know the code. However, no one will access your apartment during your stay without first seeking authorisation from you.

Fire and Smoke Alarms (Internal)

The apartment is fitted with a number of both heat and smoke detectors. The detectors are sensitive to sudden changes in temperature and smoke from cooking for example. Should these sound you should leave the apartment unless it is obvious that the cause of the alarm is not one that would be harmful or affect your safety.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Internal)

The alarm is fitted in the hallway and tests for carbon monoxide in the air. If the alarm sounds there may not be an immediate problem or danger to health and remedial action such as opening a window may cause the alarm to stop sounding. However, should the alarm sound then you should contact us immediately.

How does Everything Work?

Wi-Fi Codes

The Wi-Fi hub for your apartment is named either Apartment3 or Apartment5 - depending upon the apartment that you are staying in.  We have sent you the wifi password in our “Access to Your Apartment” three days prior to your arrival.

The wifi is fibre and the hub is situated in a central position within your apartment and provides a strong WIFI signal throughout.

Telephone

There is no fixed telephone provided within the apartment but there is an excellent 5g mobile signal in the area.

USB Charging

USB charging facilities are provided next to your bed and in the kitchen area.

Appliances

User guides for some of the appliances including how to use the TV are provided later.

Hot Water

The hot water is provided on demand by the central heating boiler. You should never run out, but it may take a few moments for it to reach the optimum temperature. However, once reached the water will remain at the correct temperature for you.

Heating and Thermostats

The heating is provided by a gas-fired boiler. A thermostat is situated in the hallway and maintains the temperature of your apartment. Radiator valves are also attached in each room. We very much want you to be comfortable during your stay and we have set the thermostat’s temperature and times with your comfort in mind. We would kindly ask that you do not alter the settings.

Bathroom Heating

The bathroom has a heated towel rail radiator. The towel rail can become quite hot so do be careful when placing and removing towels. There is underfloor heating that supplements other heating in the apartment so may not always need to be on.

Television

The age and construction of this wonderful building prevents the wiring of a TV aerial. To allow access to TV we are able to stream normal channels and BBC iplayer using the remote control. Other services (such as Netflix) are not provided but guests are welcome to log on to their own service if they have one.

Bedroom Side Table Lights

The bedroom table lights can be operated from the bedside or (for your convenience) from the main light switch.

Things You May Need

Shops and Supplies

You are on the doorstep of the city centre with literally hundreds of shops. For food and other supplies, there are many small independent food outlets. If you want a major supermarket, all the main supermarkets have small outlets within a 10-minute walk of the apartment.

All of the major supermarket brands also have large outlets in York – these include Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Co-op etc.

Recycling and Rubbish Disposal

We would be very grateful if you could dispose of any rubbish in the general waste bins situated in the rear garden.

There are also some recycling boxes available for your use (plastic, glass, paper and cardboard).

There is a keypad on the rear door – we have already sent details of the access number to you.

Places to Eat and Drink

Restaurants, Cafes and Bars

York is renowned for having an incredible range of places to relax and enjoy great food and drinks. Everyone has different tastes and budgets, but the city’s restaurants and cafes cater for just about everyone. There are of course many of the well-known national restaurant chains but there are even more small and independent restaurants, cafes and bars offering every type of eating experience you could want. Enjoy getting to know what is on offer.
